Silverlight 2 (Beta) does run just fine in FireFox 3. That's not the problem. The problem is that sites with Silverlight 2 content made the browser crash when I had the Silverlight 1 plugin installed.

Also, having installed the Silverlight 2 plugin, I find that several of the Silverlight 1 sites from the Silverlight.net showcase either do not work (I'm prompted to install Silverlight!) or work intermittently. This doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the technology right now.

I'm aware of the big changes between Silverlight 1.0 and 2.0 and it's pretty clear that it provides a model of programming and an integration with the .NET framework you cannot get with any other technology in the same arena. That's great. But if Microsoft really wants to take the Flash market in 18 months from first release (a little bird at MS told me so) they've got to fix this plugin issue.

Silverlight is still in beta (Beta 2), and should run fine on Firefox 3...

There are some MAJOR changes from 1.0 to 2.0, the biggest one beeing support for .NET in the browser, C#, VB.NET, Python and Ruby, as well as major pieces of the .NET Library, like IO, LINQ and a bunch of other stuff...

I don't expect the download size to increce alot between Beta 2 and final, or even 3.0. At the moment they're trying to balance what is included in the framework (The 4.7 Silverlight 2 Download) and what is included as "libraries" in your application...

So do we wan't a little bit bigger "one time deployment", or do we wan't a small initial release (and a little bit larger Silverlight 2 apps).

At the moment, if you're using the "core" Silverlight stuff, you can get away with a full app in 50KB.
